DALLAS--()--Building on a legacy of responsible environmental stewardship and commitment to educational outreach, Luminant has contributed $60,000 to support two environmentally focused teacher workshops this summer.

“Year after year, we continue to recognize the value that these workshops provide to participating teachers and their students”

In affiliation with Stephen F. Austin State University, Luminant donated $30,000 to fund the Energy, Economics and the Environment summer workshop, to be held June 9-14. Elementary and secondary teachers will receive an in-depth overview of the energy industry through classroom seminars, on-site field workshops and tours of a power plant and mine. Participants will also experience the dragline and heavy equipment simulators at Luminant Academy, the company’s state-of-the-art continuing education facility in Tyler.

A second $30,000 donation will support the University of Texas at Arlington’s Environmental Education Summer Institute workshop for K-12th-grade teachers. From June 16-21, educators will visit Big Brown Power Plant and Mines near Fairfield and learn about the connection between our natural resources, their role in energy production and the importance of environmental stewardship.

“Year after year, we continue to recognize the value that these workshops provide to participating teachers and their students,” said Robert Gentry, Luminant Academy curriculum manager. “Educational outreach opportunities like these bring important energy and environmental topics to the forefront for our educators and provide them with lesson modules to take back to their classrooms.”

Participating teachers will also receive three hours of graduate credit upon completion. For more information on either workshop, please contact SFA Professor of Education Dr. Alan Sowards or UTA Associate Dean of Professional Education Dr. Ann Cavallo.
